“Loveliest of Trees” makes full use of the range of the human voice to express emotional depth. By setting the text almost like a hymn, Corlis says “it speaks about a way of living, a way of knowing death in life and of living fully in that knowledge.” The aleatoric section at the end of the song is borrowed from Leonard Enns’ composition “’s no wonder.”

« Loveliest of Trees » exploite pleinement la gamme de la voix humaine pour exprimer de profondes émotions. En rendant le texte presque comme un hymne, Timothy Corlis déclare que la pièce présente un mode de vie, un moyen de se sensibiliser à la mort et de vivre pleinement avec cette connaissance. La section aléatoire qui résonne à la fin s’appuie sur la locution « ’s no wonder » (ce n’est pas étonnant) dont se sert souvent le compositeur ontarien Leonard Enns.

Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide.

Now, of my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It leaves me fifty more.

And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.
